Welcome to Creative Dare
Hello, please come on in, take your shoes off, thank you. I have been getting ground down by the social media-fication of the arts world online as the algorithms are, among other things, deeply deeply punishing to anyone living with an energy limiting illness or disability.
It feels like a cold wasteland out there, and here I am a 1900s human at heart, raised by zines and answering machine messages that got changed every few weeks because we had to wring every last little bit of creativity from it.
I am thinking of this newsletter as a digital zine, a little thing I want to make and leave for you in your mailbox. Sometimes with zines the fold comes out slightly wonky, or there's a little mark on the side where my finger sat for a moment too long. Evidence. Of the humanness inside it. I might make images for these sometimes, or might just have text for you - I'm not sure yet. But what I like about zines is their flexibility and the way they hold impulse and experiment so well. So I imagine that feeling might find its way here too.
I sometimes make physical zines as well, and I'll tell you more about them in a future message. For now, your creative dare for today/this week/whenever you want it is:

and just listen. What comes next?
